Native Plant Trust, the nation’s first plant conservation organization and the only one solely focused on New England’s native plants, announces 100 programs, including more than 30 never offered before, for the spring/summer 2021 season. Most programs are offered virtually or can be adapted to an online format. Program registration is open effective immediately at www.NativePlantTrust.org.
Over the past year, Native Plant Trust has welcomed thousands of new and returning learners to programs conducted safely online. The pandemic has motivated more people to get outside and discover the plant world, and Native Plant Trust offers resources to support that exploration and access to innovation and research in botany and horticulture.

“As we plan for the season of warmer weather and nature’s renewal, we are providing a wealth of educational programs — from field studies spanning New England to a new book talk series to programs like ‘Decolonizing Botany’ and ‘Roots of Black Botany’ that feature a diversity of plant-relevant perspectives,” notes Courtney Allen, Native Plant Trust’s Director of Public Programs. “It is our pleasure to create lifelong learning opportunities for our community, as we continue to navigate this challenging time together with hope, unity, and resilience. Learning continues to unite us and help us thrive.”

Among the 30 new programs this season are:

 An online series of book talks, featuring authors such as Darrel Morrison and Jonathan Drori
 A series focused on diverse perspectives, including Decolonizing Botany, Roots of Black Botany, and Environmental Justice for Botanists
 A virtual symposium on Native Plants and the Future of Public Spaces on April 9
 Special online events to complement Trillium Week at Garden in the Woods beginning May 1, when two dozen species of this beloved plant are in glorious bloom
 Workshops on plant palettes and sponge landscapes
 In person field and landscape studies, including behind-the-scenes visits to STIMSON landscapes
Native Plant Trust also offers programs tailored to gardening enthusiasts, those seeking in-depth learning, and professionals. Offered again are favorites such as workshops on shade gardens, gardening for pollinators, and plant adaptations. People may enroll in the comprehensive Native Plant Studies Certificate program, which including three recently debuted self-paced online courses that fulfill core requirements.

Many programs are eligible for continuing education credits for professionals in conservation, horticulture, landscape, and arboriculture.

ABOUT NATIVE PLANT TRUST

Native Plant Trust is the nation’s first plant conservation organization and the only one solely focused on New England’s native plants. We save native plants in the wild, grow them for gardens and restorations, and educate others on their value and use. We are based at Garden in the Woods, a renowned native plant botanic garden that attracts visitors from all over the world. From this flagship property in Framingham, Massachusetts, 25 staff and many of our 1,500 trained volunteers work throughout New England each year to monitor and protect rare and endangered plants, collect and preserve seeds to ensure biological diversity, detect and control invasive species, conduct research, and offer a range of educational programs. Native Plant Trust also operates a nursery at Nasami Farm in western Massachusetts and manages six sanctuaries in Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont that are open to the public. Native Plant Trust is among the first organizations worldwide to receive Advanced Conservation Practitioner accreditation by London-based Botanic Gardens Conservation International (BGCI), which included an endorsement by an International Advisory Council representing six continents.
