From waterfalls and fishtails to French braids and milkmaids, these fashionable tresses are a modern take on the classic ’do. Braids have adorned the 2015 Spring Fashion Week runway, and have been popularized by celebrities like Sarah Hyland and Lauren Conrad. For weddings, proms and everyday wear, the braid is an essential summer beauty trend that will beat the heat. If you can muster up the patience then try the top three “it” braids for this season!
The Fish Tail
Step 1: Divide hair into two sections in the back.
Step 2: On one side take a small outer piece and cross it over to the inside of the other section.
Step 3: Do the same crossing of hair on the opposite side. The hair should start forming an ‘x’ shape.
Step 4: Continue crossing the small outer pieces to the inside of the opposing hair section. Remember the smaller they are, the better it will end up.
The Mermaid
Step 1: First form the accent braid by picking out a small section of hair from the upper left backside of your head. Create a basic 3-strand braid. Secure that piece to the right side of your head.
Step 2: For the main braid, pick out a half-inch section from the middle of your crown. Divide this hair into three sections and start to make another basic braid. Only weave it twice.
Step 3: Every time you weave the basic braid add a piece of hair from the side of your scalp. These are small pieces, unlike a french braid.
Step 4: Continue the braid down your head, and keep adding the small pieces from each side of your head.
Step 5: When done, tug the braid on both sides to loosen the look.
The Four-Strand Braid
Step 1: Pull hair to the side of your preference and split into 4 different sections.
Step 2: In your left hand hold sections 1 and in right hold 3 & 4. Section 2 should remain in the middle.
Step 3: Bring 1 over 2 and under 3.
Step 4: Take 4 under strand 3 and over 2.
Step 5: Continue same pattern with left going over and under and right going under and then over.
