Berkshire AHEC Announces Interim Director

SOW_cathy_cohenAnna Gallo-Foss, chairperson of the board of directors of the Berkshire Area Health Education Center, has announced the hiring of an interim executive director. Cathy J. Cohen of Leeds, will temporarily replace Timothy J. Diehl, who has resigned for health reasons. Diehl has been the executive director of the Pittsfield based organization for the past 8 years.
Cohen is part of the executive transitions group at Third Sector New England, a non-profit consulting organization based in Boston. Third Sector New England provides a range of nonprofit consulting services including the executive director search process.
 Cohen is also principal at C.J. Cohen Associates, a consulting business that she has led since 1994. She brings over 25 years' experience in senior level management in both community hospitals and nonprofit organizations. She has served as interim executive director for a number of Massachusetts and Connecticut non-profits, and holds a master's degree in business administration from the University of Massachusetts and an undergraduate degree from Temple University.


New Associate Joins Fitzgerald Attorneys at Law, P.C.

Mantolesky focuses her practice in the areas of estate planning and probate administration; corporate law; real estate transactions and banking law; and litigation. Prior to joining the firm, she practiced in the areas of banking law and litigation at Jack Mikels & Associates, LLP, in Quincy, Mass.
Mantolesky, a Wisconsin native, earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. She was admitted to the Massachusetts bar in 2008 and the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts in 2009. She is a member of the Hampden County Bar Association.



PROFESSIONAL WOMEN'S CHAMBER NAMES JEAN M. DELISO PROFESSIONAL WOMAN OF THE YEAR  2013

SOW_jean_delisoThe Professional Women's Chamber of Springfield has announced that Jean M. Deliso is the Professional Woman of the Year for 2013.
Jean is President/Owner of Deliso Financial and Insurance Services, a firm specializing in comprehensive financial planning that positions clients for a solid financial future. Her extensive experience in several areas has led to a reputation for certain specializations, such as assisting women in planning for their financial future, particularly in time of transition such as divorce or widowhood. She is committed to educating women about their finances and frequently conducts workshops, advocating financial empowerment for women.
Jean has been working in the financial field for thirty years; her first seven in the public accounting profession, and the balance of the years working in the financial services industry. She is a graduate of Bentley College.
Jean is a member of New York Life's Chairman's Council and is a consistent qualifying member of the Million Dollar Round Table and currently a 2013 Court of the Table Member. Members of the elite Chairman's Council rank in the top three percent of New York Life's elite sales force of more than 12,000 licensed agents. Jean is also current Chair of the Agents Advisory Council at New York Life and is their 2012 Established Agent of the Year at her General Office.
Jean serves on many boards in her community; currently The Pioneer Valley AAA Auto Club and Pioneer Valley Refrigerated Warehouse, along with The Community Music School of Springfield. She is Past Chairman of the Board of the YMCA of Greater Springfield and past trustee of the Community Foundation of Western Massachusetts. In addition, she is a supporting member of the National Association of Life Underwriters, Association for Advanced Life Underwriting and The Hampden County Estate Planning Council.
Jean is married, has two sons, and lives in Longmeadow, MA. She is an avid golfer and also enjoys sailing.
Each year the Professional Women's Chamber selects a nominee for the position who has shown great dedication to their profession and the community.

Monson Savings Appoints New Branch Office Managers

SOW_christina_bordeauMonson Savings Bank has announced that Christina A. Bordeau has joined the bank as Branch Manager for the Hampden Branch and Clare Ladue has been appointed Branch Manager of the bank’s new office scheduled to open in Ware this spring.
Christina brings more than 15 years of retail banking experience to her new position at Monson Savings having held previous management positions at Citizens Bank and Bank of America. 

SOW_claire_ladueChristina is replacing Clare Ladue at the bank’s Hampden location, because Clare has been appointed Branch Manager of the bank’s new office in Ware which is scheduled to open this spring.


Auditor Bump Becomes President of the Association of Government Accountants’ Boston Chapter

SOW_suzanne_bumpState Auditor Suzanne Bump was named president of the Association of Government Accountants’ Boston Chapter (AGA Boston) at their annual Professional Development Conference at Bentley University. A
Boston serves professionals in the government financial management community by providing quality education, fostering professional development, and participating in local community projects for the New England area. In the past three years, the chapter has grown more than 50%, adding 116 members to reach its current total of 337.
In an effort to promote the level of professionalism within her office, Auditor Bump has strongly encouraged her staff to pursue advanced certifications, to join professional organizations, and to seek leadership positions within them. Since taking office in 2011, more than half of new AGA Boston members have come from Auditor Bump’s own staff. s a result of the work of the Auditor and her staff, the OSA received recognition today from the national office.
Auditor Bump succeeds Ernest Almonte, former Auditor General of Rhode Island, for a one year term as President. Massachusetts State Comptroller, Marty Benison, today was named president-elect. Duties of AGA’s regional Presidents include being responsible for the overall operation of the chapter, presiding over monthly meetings of the chapter’s leadership, and coordinating with the AGA’s national office.



Freda Brown Incoming President of Women Business Owners Alliance of the Pioneer Valley Inc.

 SOW_frda_brownFreda Brown a resident of Southwick has been named the incoming President of the WBOA.
Ms. Brown owns Divorce Financial Services since 2003. Prior to opening her own business she was an independent contractor with a former home décor home party company for over 21 years. Ms. Brown was in their top 10 producers and horned her leadership and entrepenureal skills in that position.  She also prepares income taxes and has been doing that for over 32 years. She is an enrolled agent and a Master Tax Advisor with Drenen Financial Services. She is also a part-time fashion consultant with Zesta Style.
Ms. Brown  has been a member of the WBOA for eight years. She has served on the board for six  years and two years as newsletter chair, 2 years as membership chair and two years as treasurer. Freda Brown has always supported and encouraged women in their goals and continues to do so both in her business, organizations and communty involvement.
 Ms Brown also  belong to Toastmasters International. The national organization is geared to helping people to move their speaking abilities to a professional level. Ms Brown also belongs to National Association of Tax Preparers, Association of Divorce Financial Planners,  Institute of Divorce Financial Analyst  Massachusetts Collaborative Law Council and the  International Academy of Collaborative Practice.



WOMEN BUSINESS OWNERS ALLIANCE OF PIONEER VALLEY NAMES “BUSINESS WOMAN OF THE YEAR” AND “NEW MEMBER OF THE YEAR  AWARDS “ 2013

SOW_mchelle_murrayMichelle Murray has been named the “Business Woman of the Year” for 2013 by the Women Business Owners Alliance of Pioneer Valley.

Michelle has been a Licensed Mental Health Counselor for the past 23 years, working primarily with adults who have experienced trauma, and has been trained as an EMDR therapist.  She is a Board Certified Professional Counselor by the American Psychotherapy Association.  She previously taught as an adjunct professor at Baypath College in Psychology and Sociology.  Ms. Murray established her full time private psychotherapy practice in 2006 and joined WBOA that same year.  Her involvement in WBOA has included:  Community Connections Chair, Vice President, and Chair of the Women’s Night of Comedy.
Michelle earned a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work from Ohio University in 1985, and  investigated child sexual abuse cases in Athens, Ohio.  She earned a Masters in Counseling Psychology from Antioch New England Graduate School in 1987.  She has worked in a variety of settings as a therapist (clinics, psychiatric hospital, and nursing home settings), and supervised workers investigating elder abuse and neglect, supervised crisis team clinicians and therapists in clinic settings.
Michelle's community and professional involvement includes: past member of the Association for Women in Psychology, member of the Massachusetts Mental Health Counselor’s Association since 1990, Member of the American Psychotherapy Association for 7 years, and member of EMDRIA (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing International Association) for the past 3 years.  Recently she became a volunteer in the Medical Reserve Corps for the town of East Longmeadow and will be providing psychological first aid to disaster victims locally and regionally.
She lives with her husband Kyle, and has a 15 year old step-son, Cameron. 



Debra Sorcinelli has been named the “New Member of the Year 2013” for the Women Business Owners Alliance of Pioneer Valley.

She has been a member of WBOA  since Febuary 2012 and is on the WBOA Board of Directors. Debra is a member on the Business Woman of the Year committee. She is also the co-chair responsible for planning the by-monthly WBOA “Evening after 5” social events that are open to the public. Debra has a motto; :Embrace the current season of your life"  Debra  graduated from Chicopee High School and lives with her husband Bob in Agawam.

Both of these women will be honored at a dinner at the Delany House on June 20th 2013.
