The City of Springfield’s Aquatics Department will be offering a Red Cross Lifeguard Training Course. The course will take place during April vacation week at Commerce High School on 415 State Street. Pre-registration is required and space is limited. Persons 15 years of age and over can register for the course, which runs Tuesday, April 17 through Friday, April 21, 2018. An in-pool test will be given to all participants prior to the first day on Thursday, April 12th also at Commerce High School at 6:00pm. Based on the results of the swim test, participants who pass will continue on to the full course. Cost for the program is $175.00 (cash or check only) per person for City residents and $225.00 for non-City residents. All fees must be paid on the day of the swim test.
The department is pleased to offer an invitation to all interested participants to learn these valuable life skills. The course is part of the Aquatics Division’s ongoing commitment to provide quality programming.

The lifeguard training is a great way to earn extra money after school or over the summer! It is also a step in the right direction for a future job. Many of our lifeguards go on to be EMT’s, Paramedics, Police Officers, Fire Fighters, and more!

ATTENDANCE AT & FULL PART ICIPATION IN ALL SESSIONS IS REQUIRED FOR ALL CANDIDATES WHO SUCCESSFULLY PASS THE PRE-COURSE SWI M SKILLS TEST*
*PRE-COURSE SKILLS TEST will be held before the course begins. Candidates will need to bring a swimsuit, towel, sweatshirt (& optional goggles) and be prepared to pass the following:
• SWIM 300 YARDS (12 lengths of a 25 yd. Pool)
• SWIM 20 YARDS using either front crawl or breaststroke, surface dive to 7 to 10 feet, retrieve 10 lb. object, & return to the surface, and swim 20 yards back to the starting point with the object.
• 2 Minute Tread without support and without stopping using your legs only.
